In The Hollies Style

It was clear from IN THE HOLLIES STYLE that the Manchester beat group was destined for great things. Cut with producer Ron Richards at EMI's Abbey Road studios in 1964, the quintet's second studio album featured tighter instrumental work and more confident vocals than their debut, and though the band still shows their love of American R&B, they've also started writing their own songs. Seven of the dozen tracks here are originals (credited to the Allan Clarke-Tony Hicks-Graham Nash collective pseudonym "L. Ransford"), including such gems as "Come On Home," "To You My Love" and "Don't You Know." Despite its high quality, the material on IN THE HOLLIES STYLE wasn't originally released in America, but we'll give it a spin today in honor of Clarke's 75th birthday.
