Chaka Khan

After a successful run with Rufus, Chaka Khan signed with Warner Bros. to launch her solo career with 1978's CHAKA; two years later she was back with NAUGHTY. Re-teaming with producer Arif Mardin, the vocalist sounds even more assured and adventurous on the 1980 collection, which was cut at New York's Atlantic Studios with such instrumental aces as AWB guitarist Hamish Stuart and bassist Anthony Jackson in support - not to mention backing vocalists including Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross. Highlights include club favorite “Clouds” (one of two Ashford & Simpson songs here), “Too Much Love” and hit single “Papillon (a.k.a. Hot Butterfly).” NAUGHTY delivers all the funk, soul and R&B you could ask for, and we'll cue it up now to celebrate Black Music Month.
