On this day in 1969, the original Woodstock festival began in Bethel, New York. The 3 days of peace & music that followed were a cultural milestone that produced an Oscar-winning documentary and accompanying album a year later. WOODSTOCK: MUSIC FROM THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK AND MORE topped the Billboard chart and eventually went double-Platinum, thanks to a talent line-up that's the stuff of legend. Iconic performances by Richie Havens (“Freedom”), Ten Years After (“I'm Going Home”), Sly and the Family Stone (“I Want to Take You Higher”) and Jimi Hendrix (“The Star-Spangled Banner”) may have only scratched the surface of what was played that weekend, but the triple-LP captures the spirit and variety of the festival perfectly. The historic WOODSTOCK: MUSIC FROM THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK deserves a place in any good collection of popular music.
