Aquarium Drunkard Presents: John Fahey: Twenty
The guitarist who spawned a quiet movement. Born John Aloysius Fahey on February 28, 1939, Fahey did much to popularize solo fingerstyle guitar and while his name may not be as widespread in the mainstream as, say, John Lennon or Robert Johnson, his influence, within certain circles, is arguably on par.
Stylistically laying down the basis for what has become known as American Primitivism, Fahey went on to found Takoma Records -- a label that championed the likes of fellow travelers in the world of the avant guarde, most notably Leo Kottke, Peter Lange and bluesman Bukka White. Here, in the 21st century post-Fahey world, there is an entire new cast of characters continuing in the vein of Fahey -- a world we will be highlighting on AD in the coming months.
