It’s a little staggering to realize that The Nitty Gritty Dirty Band celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, but just because it’s hard to believe doesn’t mean it isn’t true: they’ve been around since 1966, and although the lineup might have changed a bit over the years, they’ve never stopped making music.

FISHIN’ IN THE DARK: THE VERY BEST OF NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND offers a 21-track distillation of the band’s career from their 1967 debut RICOCHET through their 1988 album WORKIN’ BAND, kicking off with their top-10 hit, “Mr. Bojangles.” Also in the mix: a number of their hits from the period when they dropped the “Nitty Gritty” and simply called themselves The Dirt Band, including “An American Dream” and “Make a Little Magic.”
