Out Now: “Hello, I Love You” 50th Anniversary Single

50 years ago today, The Doors landed atop the Billboard Hot 100 for the second time in the band’s existence, an occasion which Rhino is commemorating with two new reissues of the single in question: “Hello, I Love You.”

First of all, there’s a digital release of the “Hello, I Love You” maxi-single, which features a newly remastered version of the song, a previously unreleased rough mix of the song, and a previously unreleased rough mix of “Love Street,” the original B-side to “Hello, I Love You.”

But that’s not all! There’s also a new 7” vinyl version of the single – “Hello, I Love You” on the A-side, “Love Street” on the B-side – which features the mono radio mixes that were given to radio stations back in ’68. If you picked up The Doors’ THE SINGLES last year, then you’ve already heard this version of “Hello, I Love You,” but this is the first time this particularly mix of “Love Street” has ever been commercially released.

And, hey, as long as we’ve got your ear, Doors fans, here’s something to circle on your calendar: on September 14, Rhino will be releasing WAITING FOR THE SUN: 50TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXED EDITION. This 2-CD / 1-LP set includes a new version of the album’s original stereo mix on both CD and 180-gram vinyl as well as a second CD that includes 14 never-before-released tracks: nine “rough” mixes” from the original recording sessions for the album and five live  songs from the band’s 1968 European tour. Whoa! Calm down! No need to circle the date more than once! Rest assured that we’ll remind you again when the time comes.

For now, though, go forth, pick up a copy of that 7” single, and remember: even if your brain already screams out this song, you can never have too many copies of “Hello, I Love You.”
