YouTube and Us: Led Zeppelin Playlists for IV and Houses of the Holy

If you're a diehard Led Zeppelin fan, then we have no doubt that you already know about the impending continuation of our deluxe reissue program, with the next two albums in the band's discography – IV and Houses of the Holy – hitting record store shelves on October 28. While you anxiously await their arrival, however, we've created a couple of new playlists on YouTube to keep your attention at least slightly occupied 'til then.

IV:

Black Dog (Live Video): It's not officially labeled as such, but from what we can tell, this seems to be the performance of the song from The Song Remains the Same, taken from one of their Madison Square Garden shows in July 1973, which is revisited later in this playlist.

Rock 'n' Roll (Live at Knebworth 1979): It was a full-fledged event when the band played Knebworth in '79, the first time they’d performed in the UK since '75. Other artists on the bill for the festival included Todd Rundgren and Utopia, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, the Marshall Tucker Band, and the New Barbarians, featuring Keith Richards, Ron Wood, and Ian McLagan.

Stairway to Heaven (Live Earls Court 1975): Taken from the band's five-show stint at Earls Court, where they used the song to close out the set proper, much as high schools around America used it to close out school dances.

Misty Mountain Hop (Live Madison Square Garden – 1973): Back to Madison Square Garden for this performance, which took place between "Over the Hills and Far Away" and "Since I’ve Been Loving You."

Going to California (Live Earls Court 1975): And now it's back to Earls Court. The band situated this song between "Tangerine" and "That's the Way."

Houses of the Holy:

The Song Remains the Same (L.A. 3/25/75): Taken from the midway point of the band's three-gig stint at the Forum, where it turned up between "In My Time of Dying" and "Rain Song."

The Song Remains the Same (NY 1973): There must've been something about "Rain Song" that made it the perfect follow-up to this number – that's right, we're saying that, with these two dates, the song remains the same – but in '73 they preceded it with "No Quarter" instead.

Over the Hills and Far Away (promo): This promo video was created in conjunction with the 1990 remasters of the Led Zeppelin catalog, with the included performances taken from a '77 show in Seattle and a Knebworth performance in '79.

Over the Hills and Far Away (Rare Film – L.A., 3/27/75): From the last night of the band's run at the Forum, and the last performance they'd do in the States until April 1, 1977.

No Quarter (NY 1973): Hello again, Madison Square Garden! This is a severely edited performance of the song in question, unfortunately, but it still shines the spotlight on John Paul Jones's efforts as a pianist, which is always nice.

The Ocean (Live in New York 1973): Oh, what the heck, let's close out with a Madison Square Garden performance, too, shall we? Robert Plant flip-flopped the second and third verses of the song, shifting the second verse to the end of the song, but it doesn’t do any damage…well, except for the fact that this edited version doesn’t include the entire performance. But, hey, you can't win 'em all.
